In appropriate concentration, it provides the most rapid and greatest reduction in microbial counts on skin. CHG is also a broad-spectrum anti-microbial with strong affinity for the skin. BIOGARD- CHG combines the rapid effect of Ethanol and persistence of CHG.

Alcohols have excellent antimicrobial activity against most vegetative bacteria, fungi and viruses, deriving their antimicrobial effects by denaturation of proteins. A vigorous 1-minute rubbing with enough alcohol have been shown to be the most effective method for hand antisepsis.
